Group fitness trends are on the rise (can you say hello Les Mills?) which is giving fitness locations clear spikes in attendance rates over a 24 hour period which means huge opportunity for a business that offers group classes and other amenities to their members.
But are you taking advantage of having several members entering and exiting your facility all at once?
Here are some ideas to help you funnel your most enthusiastic members to your other profit centers:
1. Inform Your Instructors
Every week you can provide each class instructor with information about the daily specials and require them to mention these specials at the beginning and end of their classes. Mentioning the specials twice can increase the odds of making a sale. To give your instructors extra incentive for plugging the daily deals, have members mention their instructor’s name for a discount and reward the highest performing instructor at the end of the month.
2. Display Your Specials
Display daily and monthly specials directly outside the entrance of the group class areas. Most facilities maintain a whiteboard or daily special area at the entrance to the facility but we’ve found this to be somewhat ineffective because members walking in are on a mission, they login and then forget about the specials by the time they are done with their workout.
3. Samples! Samples! Samples!
Post fitness class is prime sampling time. Your members are thirsty, a little hungry and in the perfect mindset to purchase a smoothie and refuel. Make sure samples are not too full to make sure you leave them wanting more.
4. Get Your Coupons Ready
Have your group fitness instructors hand out coupons after class. For example: ‘1 Free Smoothie Boost’ or ‘Buy One Get One Half Off’ is perfect for group fitness classes. Many people will attend these classes with a friend so encouraging both members to make a purchase or plugging your high-margin items is a great way to capitalize.
